Photographer Mark Cowan was travelling through the Amazon studying reptiles and amphibians when he stumbled upon an unusual and beautiful sight… A caiman wearing a crown of butterflies!
Actually, this phenomenon where butterflies perch on reptiles and drink their tears full of salt (necessary for their survival), has been documented before. What does make this photo unusual, however, is the way the butterflies arrange themselves into three groups organized by their different species. Pretty neat, huh?
